Alternative Bling

You would have to have been living in a cave for the last several years not to notice that there is big trend in the apparel market for “Bling”.

What is Bling?  Wikipedia defines it as: “Bling-bling (or simply bling) is a slang term popularized in hip hop culture, referring to flashy, ostentatious or elaborate jewelry and ornamented accessories that are carried, worn or installed, such as cell phones or tooth caps. The concept is mostly associated with rappers.”

Well, these days bling has reached far beyond the likes of P Diddy or Lil’Wayneto all segments of the apparel market.  Every segment of the market from girl’s fashion to corporate wear to children’s apparel and spiritwear is looking for a little somethin’-somethin’ to enhance their logos with sparkle and shine.

The most common way to do this has been using rhinestones.  Whether it be by creating the whole design entirely with rhinestones or just accenting a design with them, there is no doubt that rhinestones are a great way to achieve a dramatic look but there are some drawbacks.  Creating rhinestone designs can be both expensive and labor intensive making the “kicked up” designs cost-prohibitive at times.

If you want an alternative that is easy and cost effective, consider using special finish cad-cut films that are cut on a standard vinyl cutter.  Using films like Megatallic, Alloy, Glitz, Spectra Bling and ultimately Foil, you can offer your customers the sparkle and shine that they are looking for without a big investment or tedious production on your part.  These films offer many different levels of bling from a subtle metallic sheen to an eye popping glitter, chrome or even holographic iridescence and they come in a wide variety of colors so they can fit nicely into most color schemes while giving you the dramatic effect that sells to your customer.

Will these films totally replace rhinestones?  Probably not but they are a great alternative that can give your customer price point options without sacrificing “bling”.
